Last Wednesday, October 13, 2010, hospitality workers at the David L. Lawrence Convention Center voted to be represented by UNITE HERE Local 57--Pittsburgh's hospitality union.
Workers at the Convention Center, Consol Energy Center and PNC Park can now join together with hospitality workers in the region's hotels, restaurants, and casinos.
Convention Center cook Nallan "Lucky" Lakshmana said, "Cooks, housekeepers, bellmen, concession workers, we belong together. Many of the fans we serve come from out-of-town and I like knowing that when they return to their hotel Local 57 members are there to continue to take good care of them. The hospitality industry is growing in Pittsburgh and if we are to see our fair share of that growth we all need to stick together."
